I Want to Brag A Minute

Last Sunday, I was the DJ for my buddy’s wedding.

Right after the ceremony, I went into the men’s room and did a reverse Superman into my DJ attire (really just some classy clubbing clothes – give me a break! I don’t do this often enough…)
From the introductions to dinner to slideshows and arguably, best part of any wedding after dinner (dancing)…I was the man getting you into the mood.

And I think did pretty good.  The wedding photographer even asked if I had a business card (I didn’t). Crazy.

Thanks to Garth & Daisy for taking a chance with me and trusting me to serve them and their guests with music.

Now off to another wedding in Saratoga, CA for a friend from my college fellowship.
Life is an adventure.

Happy Memorial Day!

Feels like truly a day-off.

Woke up late, ate lunch, read some, cleaned up the house, and about to take a nap out in the sun. Will join my Dad tonight for some of our favorite sandwiches.

To my grandfather, and all men and women in the military who selflessly serve our country and protect our freedom…thank you!

Hope you enjoyed your day today.

How I’ve Been Humbled This Year, Part 1

Rapidly approaching the halfway point of 2011. The thing that keeps coming up in my head is humility. So much that I want to post about it.

For me, humbleness is not something that you say you’re gonna do, then go look for it and hope that finding that “thing” will change you. It just seems unnatural and forced when going about that way.

Instead, I think humility comes when life throws different things at you and in responding to these circumstances, you realize you’re simply a small part in a very big life portrait that is painted by a very big God. We can’t even grasp how great He is compared to us.

One way I discover that is sometimes to write about it. So here are some things which happened this year that kept my head on my shoulders and from floating into the clouds. Serious, funny…they all keep me steady in some way.

  • Attending four funerals of relatives and friends’ relatives over two months. Attending a fifth this Saturday.
  • Being among 1100 other worship leaders in the same room to learn, pray, and lift up the name of Jesus through Spirit and song. Grateful to be part of something bigger than me.
  • Losing out on a promotion at work and an 83% chance I won’t get the next one. Tough competition.
  • Choosing a song that didn’t work with the congregation. It’s always a learning curve.
  • Seeing my mom’s family in the motherland. Walking down the same streets she did during her childhood — it all hit me in the face that God is greater and more faithful than I can ever imagine.
  • Watching the Lakers (my favorite team) get painfully swept in the NBA playoffs. Ugly way to go out too.
  • Seeing a speech therapist to correct my Inglés. Took me straight back to 2nd grade. But she had nice words to say.

Try it for yourself. There’s always something learn. Open your mind and heart and look how far you have come this year.
Learn so you can move on with confidence.

Part Dos will come in the fall…
I cannot wait.

I Should Help Sell These Tomorrow

Still working on a post about humbleness. It also seems a bit heavy for a relaxing Saturday kind-of-topic.

In other news, I should help sell these tomorrow:

I wouldn’t mind one for fun.

*Snap*

Yes, this was taken with ONLY a camera.
Not a painting. Not an illustration. No Photoshop required.
Just the right moment in Namib-Naukluft Park.

Here’s the original post, including a higher resolution shot if you don’t believe your eyes.
The orange sand and the shrubs growing are the keys to look for.

When was the last time you looked at a photo and couldn’t believe it was a photo?
Amazing.
